Let’s build a better St. Paul together

My name is Saura Jost.  I am a community leader, an engineer, and a mom.  I am running for St. Paul City Council in Ward 3 because we need a leader that will build bridges to accomplish the big dreams we have for St. Paul.

As a civil engineer, I have worked on building up Minnesota my entire adult life. The firms I have worked for have made sure that our buildings and public infrastructure have been designed to work for everyone and will last a lifetime. That same philosophy drives me in engineering a vision of Saint Paul that raises us all up, includes everyone, and lasts us for the long haul.

I’ve lived in St. Paul nearly my entire life. I graduated from St. Paul Public Schools, and I’ve been civically active since I was young. I stood with my mom for reproductive rights outside of Planned Parenthood in Highland when others tried to disrupt access to reproductive care, I helped organize the Central High School Young Democrats, and I’ve campaigned for everyone from John Kerry and Amy Klobuchar to Chris Coleman.  Most recently, I’ve been proud to serve on the Macalester Groveland Community Council.

My talents in the STEM fields lead me to engineering, but my vision has never strayed from serving my community. I love Ward 3, and I have chosen to make it my home for nearly my entire life. I have experienced both its charm and its challenges from a number of different perspectives - as a young person, as a student, as the daughter of a business owner, a renter, a homeowner, and now a parent raising a child. I want to make sure that all of our residents, from students to seniors have safe and affordable housing, clean and reliable transportation options that do our part to confront the challenge of climate change, infrastructure that will serve us far into the future, a comprehensive public safety program that fully meets our needs regardless of our background, early childhood and childcare options for our working families, and a business community that is diverse and thriving.

I will lead this vision with empathy, hope, and tenacity. I am excited, I am honored, and I am ready to serve. I look forward to continuing to connect with our community and earning your support.
